WSIB First Aid Program Modernization: What Ontario Employers Should Know

Ontario’s WSIB First Aid Program is being updated in 2026.
The updated WSIB First Aid Program launches on June 22, 2026. WSIB says the update is intended to improve the quality and consistency of workplace first aid training across Ontario.
What is changing?
WSIB has indicated that its updated First Aid Program will align with newer workplace first aid training standards. Current first aid requirements and current WSIB-approved training providers remain in place until the updated program launches.
WSIB also confirms that first aid certificates issued up to June 21, 2026 by current WSIB-approved providers will remain valid until they expire.
Do employers need to repost the entire first aid requirements brochure?
No. Employers do not need to post the entire WSIB first aid requirements brochure.
However, WSIB-covered workplaces must continue to post the required WSIB Form 82, “In Case of Injury or Illness at Work,” and ensure first aid stations and first aid documentation comply with applicable requirements.
What should employers do?
Ontario employers should:
- review first aid certificate expiry dates;
- confirm the number of trained first aiders required per location or shift;
- confirm training providers for courses booked on or after June 22, 2026;
- audit first aid stations;
- confirm Form 82 is posted; and
- ensure first aid box inspection records are up to date.
Employer takeaway
This is a good time for a first aid compliance audit. Employers do not need to retrain everyone immediately, but they should plan around certificate expiry dates and the June 22, 2026 program launch.
